The Movement: Repurposing Capitalism

Social entrepreneurs and purpose-led companies are repurposing capitalism to drive solutions to the crises facing our planet.

Called stakeholder capitalism, this movement reflects the values of today’s society and balances purpose with profit for the benefit of all stakeholders, including investors, employees, suppliers, consumers, communities, and the planet.

Our purpose

To accelerate this movement by driving global awareness of and financing for purpose-led companies.

We believe every business has the obligation to balance purpose with profit. Goal 17 builds partnerships that bring resources and talent together to support social entrepreneurs and purpose-led companies. We inspire individuals, communities, and investors to support purpose-led companies and the products and services they provide.

Our media team produces podcasts and videos with plans for documentaries and a TV show to build greater awareness of purpose-led companies.

Our finance team partners with capital sources to fund purpose-led companies and the social entrepreneurs leading this movement.

By working together, this movement can help us restore our planet and build an inclusive and sustainable economy for everyone’s benefit.

Leading with purpose

Success can no longer be defined by just shareholder profits.

Repurposing capitalism includes redefining success. Success can only be achieved when purpose-led companies combine environmental, social, and governance (ESG) policies with profits to drive solutions to the economic opportunity, social justice, resource sustainability, and climate challenges facing our planet.

When companies lead with purpose, employees want to work for them, investors want to invest in them, and consumers want to buy their products.

Why we named our company Goal 17

The name Goal 17 was inspired by the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
Adopted by the United Nations in 2015 as the blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all, the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (“SDGs”) include ending poverty, fighting inequality, and addressing the urgency of climate change.

Goal #17 states that:  “A successful sustainable development agenda requires partnerships between governments, the private sector, and civil society. These inclusive partnerships— built upon shared principles and values, place people and the planet at the center— and are needed at the global, regional, national and local levels.”

We are a media and finance network building partnerships for a better world.
We are Goal 17.
